PLANNING CONSENT FOR STUNNING NEW HOUSE IN WEST SUSSEX COUNTRYSIDE
We have designed an impressive 6 bedroom house for a countryside location in West Sussex, that has now gained planning permission. Responding to the challenge of designing a house in the countryside that avoids being a pastiche for traditional architecture or a nostalgia for country living, the design is an elegant, contemporary response to its glorious setting.
The symmetrical floor plan is designed as a series of interfacing squares, creating a layout that flows seamlessly from one room to another and outside to an ample terrace for entertaining, and offers unobstructed views of the countryside.
The external envelope reflects the philosophy behind the overall design, to create a welcoming, highly functional and sustainable home. The high thermal mass of the wide masonry external walls will help maintain a steady temperature in the house, keeping it cool during the summer and reduce space heating in winter. Vertical timber cladding will sit under Riverstone phyllite slates and over a plinth course of buff-coloured handmade bricks, laid to Flemish bond.
Heat pump systems will provide underfloor heating and hot water and MVHR (mechanical ventilation with heat recovery) air quality throughout the whole building. A ground array of PV (photovoltaic) cells, together with battery storage, will be the main source of electricity for this highly sustainable new home.
