Planning Consent for a Class Q Barn Conversion

A redundant agricultural barn in the West Sussex countryside has gained planning consent for conversion to a residential dwelling. Pell-Stevens Architects have produced a sympathetic design to re-use this existing building whilst also transforming its existing and somewhat unattractive appearance, into a smart new home.

Re-use and conversion of existing buildings plays a key role in responding to climate change and in the case of redundant agricultural barns, provide an opportunity to create a unique home in typically attractive surroundings.

The converted barn will offer accommodation including two double bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, a lofty open-plan kitchen/dining/sitting room, utility and further cloak room. Having obtained the necessary permission to convert the barn, further consent was achieved to expand and rationalise the garden space for the new house and include a double garage.
