Pell-Stevens Architects renovation featured in Good Homes magazine

We are delighted to be featured in this month’s issue of Good Homes magazine. It showcases Cabin Tapio, a weatherboarded cottage in Hampshire that we recently completed renovations on, despite the pandemic slowing things down a little. You can see the full article here. Registration to read the magazine is free or you can download a PDF of the article here.

Our clients Sue and Jonathan Eley were looking for a country retreat within easy reach of their London home. They discovered this timber cabin situated between the New Forest National Park and Cranborne Chase.

The interior was basic with, in Sue’s words, a higgledy-piggledy layout. The rooms were all small, cramped and dark and there was a shower tacked on to one corner of the building.

The couple decided they wanted to completely renovate the property and appointed us to help them. We created the plans, dealt with the building control requirements and took care of all the everyday details they struggled to keep track of during their working week. We also recommended builders Jonathan Morris Construction who Sue says were “genuinely fantastic”.

The aim was to bring more light to the cabin and open it up. This was achieved by cutting into the walls and installing two sets of Crittall-style French doors and a large window seat in the dining area. Two small rooms were knocked into one to create the bedroom and ensuite and a Crittall-style shower screen was added to echo the windows throughout the cabin.

The outside deck and garden were divided into ‘zones’ creating different areas for eating, cooking and relaxing and we also suggested a yoga spot outside the bedroom window which the couple loved.
