New Orthopaedic Veterinary Practice

The second Veterinary Practice in our portfolio is now open and offering specialist orthopaedic care to our four-legged friends. Wessex Veterinary Orthopaedics is a new independent specialist veterinary orthopaedic clinic based in Poole. 

Working to a very tight design and construction programme, Pell-Stevens Architects designed the internal layout and refurbishment of an existing veterinary practice into the new specialist facility.

The provision of specialist CT scanning and X-ray equipment necessitated radiation-proofing to the rooms housing this equipment. Particular detailing was required of floor to wall junctions, doors and ceilings, to ensure protection of both staff and the public and to comply with appropriate legislation. Careful coordination of the preparation of these rooms and the installation of such specialist equipment was required and the main contractor, D&G Morgan Ltd, rose admirably to the challenges presented on site.

The refurbishment also included a new reception and waiting area, consultation and sterilisation rooms, an operating theatre, canine and feline kennels, offices and staff facilities. Further specialist installations, such as piped medical gas, theatre lighting and fire-rated hygienic PVC wrapped doors were all included.

Careful consideration was given to the selection of materials that were compatible with the required hygiene standards and pet friendly. Notably, hypo-allergenic, slip resistant, waterproof floor finishes are installed in the highest traffic areas for visiting patients.
